This villa was probably built in the first half of the 17th century as a hunting lodge for the Silvestri marquises. The villa is first reliably mentioned from 1815. In 1865 lawyer Celso Ciccolini of Loreto purchased the entire property, and the current building represents a radical restructuring carried out in 1887 to the designs of the Macerata engineer Pietro Collina. In 1888 the belvedere tower, a well, and the entrance with the gate designed by engineer Cialdani of Loreto were built. A chapel (small church) dedicated to Saint Julian the Hospitaller was also constructed or rebuilt, and it is thought to be the first church of the citys patron saint mentioned by the French writer Gustave Flaubert in one of his novellas. In this area the Saint atoned for the crime of having killed for and with his parents by hosting and ferrying pilgrims from one bank to the other of the nearby Potenza river. Both the church and the tower are about to be restored; the project for the latter foresees the creation of a residence with at least six beds, a large kitchen, and a panoramic solarium area at the top of the tower itself. The villa is arranged on three floors and divided into eight apartments equipped with spacious kitchens and living areas, double bathrooms, and very large and bright bedrooms for a total of 25 beds. In a few minutes drive you can reach the city center of Macerata, its ancient university, and the Sferisterio, an open-air arena where operas, concerts, and music festivals are performed. Nearby are the ancient village of Montelupone, the city of Recanati, birthplace of Giacomo Leopardi, and the city of Loreto with the famous basilica and the Holy House.
