In the heart of the historic center of Ancona, next to the Teatro delle Muse, lies Palazzo Jona. Formerly Palazzo Millo, it was later known as Bourbon del Monte and served as the headquarters of the Banca Nazionale Toscana. This noble apartment of 250 sqm features two balconies overlooking Corso Giuseppe Mazzini. The building was reconstructed in late Baroque style in the 18th century. The project was initially attributed to Luigi Vanvitelli (1700 - 1773), who was in the city for the construction of the Mole Vanvitelliana and the renovation of Palazzo Ferretti and the adjacent church. However, there are divergent opinions, among which is the attribution of only the characteristic corner balcony overlooking the square and the church to Vanvitelli, while the design of the palazzo is believed to be the work of Carlo Marchionni (1702 - 1786), the director of port works and designer of the reconstruction of the Church of San Domenico, and Francesco Maria Ciaraffoni (1720 - 1802), who completely rebuilt the Church of the Most Holy Sacrament just a few steps away. Palazzo Jona was fully renovated in the early 2000s. The noble apartment of approximately 250 sqm is located on the third floor with an elevator. It has undergone a conservative restoration that has preserved the internal works by Giuseppe Pallavicini (1736 - 1812), which were also previously attributed to Vanvitelli. The entire apartment is rich in artwork: frescoes, ceilings, paintings, a small chapel with a holy water font, and doors decorated with frames and other marble details. The two balconies overlook Corso Giuseppe Mazzini.
