Laurent Vaginay, , and Kévin Laussu, art historian, Malaye! Patrimoines, have the honour to present the venerable house of Lagouarde d'Orrossen located in the countryside of Pouillon. Perched on a high point in the Chalossais landscape, this farmhouse ("La garde" in Gascon) has crossed the ages to celebrate the 292nd anniversary of its foundation this year. It was in 1733, during the reign of Louis XV, that this notable property was built by Jean Bégue and his wife Catherine Gassiat. The master of the house completed the construction of the main nave the following year by affixing the following inscription: Hec domus pertinet ad me Iovannem Begue 1734 ("This house belongs to me Jean Bégue 1734"). It was enlarged by one bay in 1736 and then in depth in 1757, probably by his son also named Jean (c. ) and his daughter-in-law Jeanne Duten (c. ) The main house opens onto a courtyard now in the nature of a garden. Its original symmetry was subsequently modified by the above-mentioned additions. The result is an original masonry structure that admits a decorative project that is no less unusual. On either side of the large central door and its sculpted basket handle are two segmental arched windows. These works admit of sculpted tables suspended from the moulded string course of the first floor. Even more atypical are these ovoid days connected by stone chains. As is customary in the vernacular architecture of Chaloss, the eaves of the gable are supported by a series of scrolled armpits. The eighteenth-century structure has thus been completely preserved. The internal distribution of the house is ensured by a large vestibule offering significant ceiling clearance. Here, the half-timbered frame with cob that makes up the structure is made visible. Although restored in the 1970s, the house still retains elements of character such as these two-leaf base doors tinted with a bluish juice. It is followed by a living room, an office, two master bedrooms, two annex bedrooms, a games room, two bathrooms, a studio, a large kitchen on two levels. For the convenience of the storage room, a body of outbuildings set at right angles to the façade closes the courtyard. Built of half-timbering, this building offers large storage areas formerly devoted to agricultural equipment and harvests. The prosperity and antiquity of the estate can be seen in the complex tangle of buildings. These open to the west on a large, partially wooded park which includes a second courtyard, a swimming pool and an orchard leading to an ancient fountain.
