On 1 January 2001, it merged with the municipalities of Biel and Selkingen to form the municipality of Grafschaft. Since 2017, it has belonged to the municipality of Goms. Ritzingen is a typical Valais mountain village, known for its large chapel, which stands alone in the middle of lush meadows and is probably the most famous photo subject of the Goms.
